Located on the Northern tip of Haifa Bay, surrounded by the deep blue of the Mediterranean and weathered stone historic buildings, this ancient port city is a beautiful blend of history, culture, and modern Israeli society. Due to the city’s unique sheltered cove, the city’s port was once one of the most vital in the region and developed into an important trade route throughout history. From the Early Bronze Age until the present, Acco is considered to be among the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on earth. From the times of King David through the Byzantine and Crusade eras, Acco has been the host to many notable historical figures. Richard Lion Heart, Philip Augustus, Marco Polo, and of course the famous defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte to Al-Jazzar.Today, you can get a sense of Acco’s rich past as you walk through its colorful marketplace and many historic sites. With so much history, one almost gets the sense of stepping back in time. We will visit some of the most popular historic spots, including the Hospitaller Fortress (Knights' Halls), Hamam al-Basha (the Turkish Bath), the Okashi Museum, the Marketplace, the Ramchal Synagogue, and the Templars Tunnel; plus an optional half-hour boat ride around Acco Bay.
